The Ducati 1199 Panigale S is a superbike, but what does that mean? Well with a top speed of 182 mph it's fast. A 0 to 60 mph time of 2.8 seconds and a quarter mile time of 9.91 seconds at 146 mph make it quick. With a wet weight of just over 400-punds, the Ducati 1199 is nimble.

What's it like to ride, amazing. The Panigale might as well be the definition of beauty on wheels. Its Italian design looks spectacular coming down the road and will attract stares at every stoplight, gas station, and Seattle coffee house.

That's not a surprise either. The Ducati Panigale is a work of engineering art. It would look great in someone's home as the centerpiece of their living room floor to be stared at and discussed as if it was designed by Michelangelo himself. On pain of death we as diehard motorist would never subject the bike to such confinement though. No, that engine needs to rev. Crank the throttle and listen as the 1199's L-Twin engine produces a modern symphony from the Termignoni exhaust. That sound will make you smile. Crack the throttle a bit more and watch your smile turn into a full grin. If the sound doesn't do it, the rush from the sudden acceleration as you hold on sure will.

The 1199 Panigale is a bike that one needs to not only look at, but to ride to appreciate. With this kind of motorcycle you'll feel like an Olympian on two wheels. The Ducati 1199 Panigale S might as well be Apollo's sun chariot.

Is it practical? Absolutely not. The rear cylinder and exhaust pipes cook the seat to the point where you want to abandon the bike in traffic. The bike needs to move to keep that seat cool. Passengers and luggage are better left at home. There's no storage on this bike and lets face it, that back seat is so small your rider is going to request for constant stops. Besides the bike looks better with its red rear seat cowl installed.

There's no reason to own a motorcycle like this, but it's a bike that every motorcyclist's soul is glad exists. It's one of the reasons this company exists. So rent it for a day, weekend, or week and experience the wonders of riding a Italian superbike, without the hassles of ownership. You'll be glad you did.
